bomber wings The "Thundermug"
(The information below is provided courtesty of Bob Karstensen--E-mail: bobk451@aol.com, historian of the 451st Bomb Group)

There were actually two different B24s of the 726th Squadron of the 451st BG known as "Thundermug." The original "Thundermug" (Aircraft #42-7475) came over with the original cadre of crews (Lt. Glen Chambers, Pilot), and eventually was transferred out of the 726th Squadron. Chambers' Crew (or the Ground Crew) renamed an aircraft, previously named "Roman's Candle" (A/C #42-52153, Pilot: Lt. Frank Roman) to the name of "Thundermug II." This is the plane that Lt. H. C. Schauer's crew (including Bombardier E. M. Brockmeier) inherited for their two ill-fated missions.
